Fashion for Kids

Gone are the days of hand me downs and procuring clothes from cousins and extended relatives. Kids of today want new clothes with smart designs and having the latest fashion ideas. This can rise a few hackles with the parents, since –

  • Kids clothes are expensive
  • Branded clothes raise the expense bar with advertising and luring kids
  • Style and comfort clash
  • Overdone style
  • Too much fabric usage

Here are some of the ways in which you can ensure longer lasting clothes for your kids and at the same time assure some value for money advantages too.

Comfort Vs Style:

Based on how your kids like it, ensure that the style matches the growth stage of the kids too. If your child outgrows clothes very fast it is better to focus on comfort. Style usually adopts the fitted look and that’s where as parents we need to keep the child’s growth in mind and buy clothes that are a size or two bigger.

Quality:

Branded doesn’t always mean quality. No one gives a premium on quality these days. Why? Fashion changes every few months so the brands also keep reinventing the styles and keep the clothes on a disposable type of quality. Ensure that you equip yourself with the different varieties of fabrics. Not all are 100% cotton as they claim to be.

Affordability:

Can you afford to keep buying kids clothes every month? Not everyone can do that and kids tend to outgrow their clothes pretty quickly. If one has to meet the house expenses and budgeting is of importance, the affordability of the clothes also has to be factored in. It should not be a matter of prestige or pride or perhaps to boast about money. We all need to be practical.

Sustainability:

Do you know how many fabrics fill the landfills? It is estimated that nearly 73% of the clothes end up in landfills in various forms and there is no collection system for this at all! Imagine you paying to fill the landfills in the end! Reusing clothes, altering them or handing them down when hardly worn help keep the ecosystem also in check.
